On July 16, 2020, while attending the Inaugural China-Central Asian Countries Foreign Ministers' Meeting via video link, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized, this year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations (UN), but the purposes and principles of the UN Charter are being challenged by unilateralism and power politics. It has been nearly 30 years since the end of the Cold War, but the Cold War mentality and zero-sum game are damaging the outcomes of world peace and cooperation.

Wang Yi pointed out, China and Central Asian countries should take a clear stand to hold high the banner of multilateralism, defend the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, safeguard the international system with the UN at its core, and oppose all forms of unilateralism and bullying. We need to further strengthen cooperation within multilateral frameworks such as the UN and the World Trade Organization, and work together to promote international fairness and justice as well as the democratization of international relations.

Wang Yi stressed, the Chinese side welcomes Central Asian countries to play a greater role in international affairs. The Chinese side is willing to join hand with Central Asian countries to continue to firmly support each other's core concerns including sovereignty and security, jointly safeguard the basic principles of international relations, and defend our legitimate rights and interests.
