On April 25, 2025 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Tajikistan's Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin in Almaty.
Wang Yi said that in July last year, President Xi Jinping paid a milestone state visit to Tajikistan, during which he and President Emomali Rahmon jointly announced the elevation of China-Tajikistan relations to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in the new era, opening a new historic chapter in building a China-Tajikistan community with a shared future at a higher level. Under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, comprehensive cooperation between China and Tajikistan has continued to yield positive results. China firmly supports Tajikistan in pursuing a development path suited to its national conditions and resolutely opposes any external forces interfering in Tajikistan's internal affairs. China will earnestly implement the spirit and arrangements of the Central Conference on Work Related to Neighboring Countries and work with Tajikistan to further consolidate strategic mutual trust, deepen development synergy, and expand friendly exchanges, in support of each country's modernization, prosperity and revitalization.
Sirojiddin Muhriddin said that last year, President Xi Jinping made a successful historic state visit to Tajikistan and reached important common understandings with President Emomali Rahmon, which charted a new course for bilateral relations and elevated mutually beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan and China to an unprecedented level, providing support for Tajikistan's sustainable development. Tajikistan is ready to work with China to make full use of bilateral cooperation mechanisms to jointly advance the Belt and Road Initiative, strengthen cooperation between legislative bodies and on the sub-national level, enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and expand cooperation in various fields such as economy and trade, investment, connectivity, e-commerce, production capacity and industry, green transformation, and healthcare and the pharmaceutical sectors. Tajikistan welcomes more Chinese enterprises to invest and do business in the country to explore more growth areas for innovative cooperation.
The two sides had an exchange of views on multilateral cooperation and agreed to jointly support the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the China-Central Asia mechanism in playing a greater role. The two sides will also strengthen border control and counter-terrorism cooperation to safeguard regional security and stability. Wang Yi noted that China welcomes Tajikistan in playing a greater role in international and regional affairs and supports Tajikistan in hosting the first High-Level International Conference on Glaciers' Preservation.
The two sides also had an exchange of views on current tariff issues. Wang Yi stressed that China responds with resolute countermeasures to unilateral bullying by the United States, not only to defend its own legitimate rights and interests, but also to safeguard the shared interests of the international community. China is ready to work with all parties to jointly uphold free trade, oppose protectionism, and defend international fairness and justice.
