On July 15, 2025, when jointly meeting the press with Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Nurlan Yermekbayev, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced that as agreed by the member states, the SCO Summit will be held in Tianjin from August 31 to September 1. This is the top priority for China during its presidency. Leaders from more than 20 countries and heads of 10 international organizations will attend the summit and related events.

Wang Yi said that the Tianjin Summit will be the largest one in the development history of the SCO. He expressed confidence that with the concerted efforts of all parties, the Tianjin Summit will surely be a grand event featuring solidarity, friendship and fruitful outcomes, and that the SCO will enter a new stage of high-quality development characterized by stronger solidarity, coordination, dynamism and productiveness.
