President Xi Jinping Meets with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon

On the evening of September 2, 2025, President Xi Jinping met at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, who is in China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit 2025 and the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

President Xi noted that under the strategic guidance of me and President Rahmon, China-Tajikistan cooperation keeps yielding new outcomes. China has become Tajikistan’s largest trading partner, with steady progress made in a series of cooperation projects. As Tajikistan’s comprehensive strategic cooperative partner, China stands ready to work with the Tajik side to build the China-Tajikistan community with a shared future.

President Xi stressed that China and Tajikistan should strengthen the alignment of their development strategies and advance cooperation in various fields. China is ready to encourage more Chinese enterprises to invest in Tajikistan, support the two sides in expanding cooperation in such areas as new energy vehicles, digital economy and infrastructure construction, and deepen exchanges in disaster prevention and mitigation, healthcare, culture and education. The two sides should continue to advance counter-terrorism cooperation, jointly crack down on the three forces of terrorism, separatism and extremism, and safeguard their common strategic interests. The two sides should also enhance coordination in multilateral affairs, jointly implement the Global Governance Initiative, and promote the building of a global governance system that is more just and equitable. Both China and Tajikistan made great sacrifices for the victory in World War II. The two countries should firmly defend the fruits of the victory and work together to advance the noble cause of world peace and development.

President Rahmon stated that Tajikistan attaches great importance to its relations with China. Strengthening Tajikistan-China cooperation serves the common interests of both countries. Tajikistan firmly adheres to the one-China principle and will always be a reliable cooperation partner of China. Tajikistan is ready to strengthen cooperation with China in a wide range of fields such as economy and trade, green economy, digital economy and infrastructure construction, and welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest and do business in Tajikistan. China has played an active role as the rotating president of the SCO, and brought the SCO into a new stage of development, making important contributions to regional peace and stability. He congratulated China on the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, stating that humanity should remember history and create a better future. The Global Governance Initiative put forth by President Xi demonstrates the vision and sense of responsibility of a world-class leader. Tajikistan fully supports it and will work with China to promote its implementation, so as to make international governance more reasonable and effective.

The two sides signed multiple bilateral cooperation documents in such fields as connectivity, green and low-carbon development, and digital economy.
