On the afternoon of September 3, 2025, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Zhao Leji met in Beijing with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, who is in China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit 2025 and the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Zhao Leji stated that China-Tajikistan relations are at their best in history. President Xi Jinping met with President Emomali Rahmon on Tuesday, making new arrangements for advancing the development of the China-Tajikistan comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in the new era. China is ready to work with Tajikistan to implement the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state, and continuously enrich the China-Tajikistan community with a shared future. The NPC of China is ready to strengthen exchanges and interactions with the Parliament of Tajikistan to provide legal guarantees for practical cooperation between the two countries.

Emomali Rahmon stated that developing relations with China is a priority of Tajikistan's foreign policy. He congratulated the Chinese people on the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and on China's successful grand military parade. He expressed the hope to further promote Tajikistan-China cooperation in fields including the Belt and Road Initiative, economy and trade, people-to-people and cultural exchange, and security, and deepen exchanges between legislative bodies.
