On May 26, 2026 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov in New York when presiding over a Security Council high-level meeting.

Wang Yi thanked Jeyhun Bayramov for making a special trip to New York to attend the high-level meeting, saying that China-Azerbaijan friendship is time-honored. Under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Ilham Aliyev, China-Azerbaijan relations have maintained rapid growth, been elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership and led to all-round cooperation across various fields. Next year will mark the 35th anniversary of China-Azerbaijan diplomatic relations. Consolidating and developing China-Azerbaijan relations is the political decision of the two heads of state and the common choice of the two peoples. No matter how the international situation changes, China’s determination to develop relations with and deepen cooperation with Azerbaijan will not waver. China stands ready to work with Azerbaijan, following the consensus reached by the two heads of state, to firmly support each other, jointly build the Belt and Road, share development opportunities, strengthen multilateral coordination and better support each other’s modernization efforts. China will fully support Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

Jeyhun Bayramov said that China’s initiative to hold this meeting is timely and very important. Azerbaijan highly appreciates the four major global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping, and has joined the Group of Friends of Global Governance in New York, Geneva and Vienna. He thanked China for sending high-level representatives to attend the World Urban Forum held in Baku and for supporting Azerbaijan in assuming the chairmanship of the CICA. Azerbaijan firmly supports China on issues related to Taiwan, Hong Kong and Xinjiang, and always regards China as an important strategic cooperative partner. Azerbaijan is willing to further strengthen strategic alignment, advance mutually beneficial cooperation in all fields, and push the China-Azerbaijan comprehensive strategic partnership to new heights.
