
On July 11, 2023, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi met with Burundian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation Albert Shingiro in Beijing.
Wang Yi thanked Burundi for its positive contribution to the successful holding of the First High-Level Conference of the Forum on Global Action for Shared Development, appreciated Burundi's active support and participation in the Global Development Initiative, and expressed the belief that the implementation of the initiative will boost Burundi's economic and social development.
Wang Yi said that China and Burundi are "all-weather" friends and "all-dimensional" partners, who have always maintained a high degree of mutual trust and firmly supported each other on issues concerning each other's core interests. China will continue to support Burundi in safeguarding its rights and interests and accelerating its development. China is concentrating on advancing its modernization drive and promoting national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization, which will also provide new development opportunities for the vast number of developing countries, including Burundi.
Albert Shingiro said that Burundi and China have always supported and trusted each other. China has never attached any political conditions to its cooperation with Burundi and other developing countries and adheres to mutual respect, mutual benefit and win-win results. Burundi is ready to carry out more practical cooperation with China in such areas as agriculture and infrastructure construction. Burundi firmly supports China's position on issues related to its core interests and major concerns and sticks to the one-China principle. Burundi opposes politicizing human rights issues in developing countries and stands ready to strengthen cooperation with China, uphold multilateralism and safeguard common interests.
