On November 14, 2019 local time, President Xi Jinping met with President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa in Brasilia.

Xi Jinping pointed out, China and South Africa, as two major developing countries and emerging economies, need to boost their domestic economic development and improve people's livelihood while sharing the determination to uphold multilateralism as well as to oppose unilateralism and bullying on the world stage. The Chinese side is willing to stay in close coordination with the South African side to firmly maintain and develop the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. The two sides need to maintain strategic communication, strengthen inter-party exchanges, share experience in state governance and administration, enhance mutual understanding and support on issues of each other's core interests and major concerns, and consolidate the special friendship and high-level mutual trust of "comradeship plus brotherhood." Both countries should further synergize the development strategies, actively expand two-way trade and investment, explore cooperation in such fields as industrial capacity and infrastructure, and advance the joint building of the Belt and Road Initiative. The Chinese side is willing to join efforts with South Africa to enhance solidarity and cooperation of the BRICS countries, push forward the development of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), maintain close communication and coordination on major international and regional issues and safeguard international fairness and justice.

Cyril Ramaphosa extended his congratulations on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. He said, South Africa highly commends the great achievements made by the Chinese people under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC), firmly supports China's development and growth, opposes the unilateralism and bullying against China and unfair treatment targeting Chinese enterprises on the international stage, and supports China in safeguarding its sovereignty and legitimate rights and interests. South Africa is willing to enhance inter-party exchanges and mutual learning with the CPC, and expand cooperation in economy and trade, infrastructure construction and artificial intelligence, among other fields. South Africa welcomes more investment in South Africa by Chinese businesses.

Cyril Ramaphosa briefed on the work plans of South Africa as the rotating chair of the African Union next year and expected to strengthen the FOCAC construction with the Chinese side, so as to help Africa realize peace and safety and embrace the new industrial revolution. South Africa is willing to continue to enhance communication and coordination with the Chinese side regarding the World Trade Organization reforms and other international affairs to safeguard the common interests of developing countries.
