On the afternoon of May 30, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Hong Kong with Cameroonian Minister of External Relations Lejeune Mbella Mbella, who attended the signing ceremony of the Convention on the Establishment of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed).

Wang Yi expressed appreciation for Cameroon's active participation in the preparation for the establishment of the IOMed, and the country's contribution to the signing of the Convention. Wang Yi looks forward to Cameroon's early ratification of the Convention, promoting the IOMed to play its due role in the peaceful resolution of international disputes.

Wang Yi said that China and Cameroon enjoy a traditional friendship, and the bilateral relations have stood the test of time. Last year, President Xi Jinping and Cameroonian President Paul Biya jointly announced the elevation of China-Cameroon relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, charting the course for the development of bilateral relations. China appreciates Cameroon's consistent and firm support on issues concerning China's core interests and is willing to strengthen exchanges at all levels between the two sides, deepen practical cooperation, and help Cameroon achieve better development.

Lejeune Mbella Mbella conveyed President Paul Biya's cordial greetings to President Xi Jinping, saying that China's advocacy for the establishment of the IOMed demonstrates China's responsibility and influence, which is in line with the spirit of the United Nations Charter. Cameroon cherishes its traditional friendship and partnership with China and appreciates China's effective cooperation with Cameroon in fields such as energy, health, and infrastructure, which has made significant contributions to Cameroon's national development. Regardless of changes in the international situation, Cameroon will remain committed to the one-China principle. Cameroon looks forward to maintaining close exchanges with China, strengthening cooperation in various fields, and advancing the continuous development of Cameroon-China relations.
