On June 10, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation of Tanzania Mahmoud Thabit Kombo in Changsha.

Wang Yi said that the traditional friendship between China and Tanzania was personally forged by the elder generation of leaders of both countries and has great historical significance. This friendship has continued to be enriched with the features of the new era. Thanks to the joint efforts of both sides, China-Tanzania relations have maintained a high level of development, with Tanzania becoming one of the countries that have seen the most effective implementation of the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). China appreciates Tanzania's understanding and support for China's legitimate position on issues concerning its core interests. China, in turn, supports Tanzania in exploring a development path suited to its national conditions and opposes external interference in Tanzania's internal affairs. Under the new circumstances, both sides should carry forward the tradition of China-Tanzania friendship, deliver on the outcomes of the FOCAC Beijing Summit, promote high-quality and practical cooperation, and boost their respective modernization.

Wang Yi said that the Tanzania-Zambia Railway is a symbol of China-Africa brotherhood and mutual support. China is ready to work with both Tanzania and Zambia to revitalize the Tanzania-Zambia Railway and make it a benchmark for mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Africa. The two sides can also expand cooperation in agriculture and mineral resource development along the railway, and help Tanzania become a key land-sea transportation hub and a center of trade and logistics in East Africa, so as to enhance its capacity for independent development.

Mahmoud Thabit Kombo said that the friendship between Tanzania and China is strong and deep-rooted, and that the practical cooperation between the two countries serves as a model. He expressed appreciation for China's assistance in Tanzania's national development and for its provision of zero-tariff treatment to Tanzania. China has become one of Tanzania's most important economic and trade partners. He was glad to see the revitalization of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway and the successful implementation of projects under the ten partnership actions in Tanzania. Tanzania firmly adheres to the one-China principle and is committed to the Tanzania-China friendship. He expressed hope to take the Africa-China Year of People-to-People Exchanges as an opportunity to deepen the friendship and cooperation between Tanzania and China in various fields.
