
On April 2, 2026, Vice Foreign Minister Miao Deyu met with the Gambian delegation jointly led by Chief of Staff of Gambia’s Office of the President Alieu Loum, and Permanent Secretary II of the Gambian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad Fatou Kinneh Jobe.
Miao Deyu stated that under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Adama Barrow, China-Gambia relations have entered a fast track of development, and the two countries have become good friends and good partners on the path of development and revitalization. Both sides should continue to fully implement the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state, firmly support each other on issues involving their core interests and major concerns, make full use of the zero-tariff policy to expand practical cooperation, strengthen multilateral coordination, and push for the in-depth and solid development of bilateral relations, so as to make greater contributions to China-Africa friendship and the solidarity and cooperation of the Global South.
The Gambian side spoke highly of the achievements in the development of Gambia-China relations, reaffirmed its adherence to the one-China principle, and expressed gratitude to China for the valuable support provided for Gambia’s economic and social development. The Gambian side stated that Gambia stands ready to take the “China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges” as an opportunity to enhance friendship and mutual trust with China, deepen cooperation for the benefit of the two peoples, and push for the continuous achievement of new outcomes in the Gambia-China strategic partnership.
