On April 2, 2026, Vice Foreign Minister Miao Deyu met with Minister of Finance of Ethiopia Ahmed Shide, who was on a visit to China.

Miao Deyu stated that under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, China-Ethiopia relations have maintained high-level development. Both sides should take the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries as guidance, implement the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), continuously consolidate political and strategic mutual trust, and strengthen the alignment of development strategies. The two countries should make good use of the Chinese side’s zero-tariff treatment on 100% of tariff lines for all African countries that have diplomatic ties with China, and work together to ensure the steady and long-term development of the China-Ethiopia all-weather strategic partnership, making greater contributions to the development of China-Africa relations and the solidarity and cooperation of the Global South.

Ahmed Shide expressed heartfelt gratitude for the valuable support China has long provided for Ethiopia’s economic and social development. Ahmed Shide highly appreciated China’s zero-tariff measures for Africa and expressed willingness to work with the Chinese side to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, deepen cooperation in fields including infrastructure construction, investment, and economic and trade sectors, promote the high-quality joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative to yield more results, and better benefit the two countries and two peoples.
