On the early morning of Nov. 24, 2013, after intensive negotiations, the dialogue between the P5+1 and Iran reached an important agreement on the settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue. For the issue, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who attended the dialogue, accepted interview by the Xinhua News Agency, the China Central Television and other media.
Wang Yi said that after 10 years of effort, especially the tough negotiations in the last round over the past days, six countries and Iran finally have reached an important agreement, which marked the first step towards a settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue through diplomatic means. China welcomes the agreement and appreciates the flexible and pragmatic attitudes of all parties during the negotiations. The agreement will help maintain the international non-proliferation system, and the peace and stability in the Middle East. It will help various parties carry out normal activities with Iran, and help the Iranian people live a better life.
Wang Yi stressed that the content of the agreement covers the concerns of all parties, and the next key step is its implementation. First, we should well implement various measures in the initial phase as soon as possible, and all parties should carry out their respective responsibilities and obligations in the agreement. At the same time, we should carry out negotiations of the next stage as soon as possible, maintaining the momentum of negotiations, so that the Iranian nuclear issue can eventually and thoroughly be solved.
Wang Yi noted that the fact of the negotiations proved that a proper solution could certainly be found no matter how tough an issue is, as long as all parties adhere to dialogue, keep patience, and demonstrate goodwill.
At last, Wang Yi said that as an important member in the dialogue, China always holds high the flag of a peaceful solution to the Iranian nuclear issue through negotiations, and keeps close contacts with all parties. China has played its role and shouldered its responsibility for the conclusion of the agreement. The implementation of this agreement is just the beginning of the settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue, and we will also be faced with new problems and new challenges in the future. China will stick to a political solution to the Iranian nuclear issue, continue to work together with all parties and make efforts towards an eventual settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue.
