In accordance with the China-U.S. Joint Statement on Nuclear Security Cooperation released after the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Barack Obama in March 2016 as well as the agreement reached by the two leaders in Hangzhou, September this year, China and U.S. Held the first Counter Nuclear Smuggling Dialogue in Beijing on 25 October. Ms. Dong Zhihua, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Arms Control of MFA, China, and Mr. Simon Limage, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Nonproliferation Programs of the U.S. Department of State co-hosted the dialogue, with the participation of officials and experts from Chinese Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Environmental Protection, China General Administration of Customs, China Atomic Energy Authority, China Institute of Atomic Energy and the U.S. Department of State, Department of Energy, Department of Homeland Security, Federal Bureau of Investigation, etc. The two sides exchanged views on countering nuclear smuggling issues and agreed to strengthen communications and coordinations in this regard. The U.S. Delegation visited the Nuclear Security Center of Excellence in Beijing on 26 October.
