As one of the major functions of the IAEA, safeguards is of great importance to the prevention of nuclear weapons proliferation. China has always actively supported IAEA's work in safeguards and is the first nuclear-weapon state that completed domestic legal procedures for the coming into force of the Additional Protocol in 2002. Under new international circumstances, China supports the IAEA to take further measures to enhance the effectiveness of its safeguards system as well as promote the universality of Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement and the Additional Protocol in accordance with the purpose of the Statute.
