On July 6, 2022, the unveiling ceremony of the China-Caribbean Development Center was held in Jinan, Shandong Province. Secretary of the Shandong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China Li Ganjie attended and addressed the ceremony. Vice Foreign Minister Xie Feng attended the ceremony and delivered a speech via video link. Diplomatic envoys of Guyana, Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, the Bahamas and other Caribbean countries posted in China attended the ceremony in an online-plus-offline format.

Xie Feng said in his speech that in September 2021, President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Development Initiative at the 76th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, calling on the international community to pay attention to the special situation of developing countries and jointly promote the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which received warm response and active support of the international community, including Caribbean countries. To enhance development cooperation between China and Caribbean countries, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced the establishment of the China-Caribbean Development Center at the Third Ministers' Meeting of the China-CELAC Forum held in December of the same year. The Center will focus on development issues of concern to the Canadian side, strengthen exchanges among personnel from governments, universities, media, think tanks and others, and vigorously carry out high-standard, sustainable and people-centered cooperation projects through material donations, technical support, personnel training, academic research and other formats to further benefit the people of Caribbean countries.

Xie Feng said that development is an eternal theme of humanity. To the people of all countries, development bears on their survival and hope and symbolizes their dignity and rights. Not long ago, President Xi Jinping chaired the High-level Dialogue on Global Development and delivered important remarks, promoted the meeting to pool the strengths of developing countries and reached important consensuses on strengthening international development cooperation, accelerating the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and other major issues.

Xie Feng stressed that in the face of the challenges and hopes in the new era, the future and destiny of China and Caribbean countries are more closely linked than ever. The establishment of the China-Caribbean Development Center is a vivid practice for both sides to join hands to implement the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Global Development Initiative, and is another milestone for China and Caribbean countries to create prosperity and development together, presenting a lavish gift to the co-celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Caribbean countries. China is willing to work with its Caribbean friends to build the China-Caribbean Development Center as a new platform for development and cooperation between the two sides and forge an even closer China-Caribbean community with a shared future.
