On September 23 local time, Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli, who was attending the United Nations (UN) Climate Summit as the Special Envoy of President Xi Jinping, met at the UN headquarters in New York with President Ollanta Humala of Peru.
Zhang Gaoli conveyed warm greetings from President Xi Jinping to Ollanta Humala. Zhang Gaoli said that during Mr. President's visit to China last April, he and President Xi Jinping jointly announced to upgrade the China-Peru relations to comprehensive strategic partnership, bringing the bilateral relations to a new era. At present, the bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields and at various levels maintain a sound momentum. China always attaches great importance to developing relations with Peru from a strategic height, and is willing to work with Peru to continuously upgrade the level of bilateral practical cooperation, so as to promote the continuous and in-depth development of the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership.
Zhang Gaoli pointed out that China and Peru have maintained close coordination and cooperation on climate change and share broad common interests. China supports Peru in holding the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Lima this November, and hopes the Conference achieve a positive result.
Ollanta Humala asked Zhang Gaoli to convey his kind greetings to President Xi Jinping. He said that Peru and China established comprehensive strategic partnership and signed bilateral free trade agreement, and the enterprises of both sides have carried out multiple cooperation. Peru hopes that bilateral economic and trade cooperation and people-to-people and cultural exchanges achieve greater development. China plays an important role in international affairs, and Peru is looking forward that China could actively participate in the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Lima and provide important support for the success of the Conference.
