Wang Yi Attends the Sixth Meeting of China-Mexico Intergovernmental Standing Committee

On September 29, 2014, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Secretary of Foreign Affairs José Antonio Meade Kuribre of Mexico co-chaired the sixth meeting of the China-Mexico Intergovernmental Standing Committee in Mexico City.

Wang Yi said that last year, President Xi Jinping and President Enrique Peña Nieto together announced to uplift China-Mexico relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, which injected new vigor in and ushered in a new stage of fresh and rapid development for bilateral relations, further embodying the strategic character and comprehensiveness of bilateral relations. The high-level work group for entrepreneurs of the two countries, the work group for intergovernmental advanced investment and other important mechanisms were established in succession and respectively convened their first meeting. Bilateral practical cooperation in all fields has been advanced unceasingly and fruitful dialogues and cooperation in international and regional affairs between the two countries have been carried out. Currently, China-Mexico relations are embracing important development opportunities, and both sides should ride the tide to put into place bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership. As an important cooperation mechanism between the two governments, the China-Mexico Intergovernmental Standing Committee shoulders significant responsibilities and missions. Both sides should strengthen the planning, enhance communication and actively promote bilateral cooperation for more tangible results.

José Antonio Meade Kuribre expressed that with the vigorous promotion of President Enrique Peña Nieto and President Xi Jinping as well as the joint efforts of various departments of the two countries, Mexico-China relations have created a new situation and scored new progress since last year. Mexico attaches great importance to its relations with China, and stands ready to seize the opportunities with China to give full play to the role of the China-Mexico Intergovernmental Standing Committee, so as to push bilateral relations for greater development and benefit the two peoples.

Both sides unanimously agreed that the two countries should enhance political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation and strengthen international coordination, making them the three vital pillars of China-Mexico relations, thus to cement the foundation for a solid strategic cooperation. Both sides should keep the momentum of high-level mutual visits, and actively prepare President Enrique Peña Nieto's visit to China this November and ensure the success of the visit; enhance exchanges between various government departments, parliaments and local governments; enlarge the scale of trade and achieve a positive balance at a higher level; expand the two-way investment and strengthen cooperation in infrastructure construction such as high-speed rail and expressway as well as in energy, agriculture, science and technology and tourism; provide more convenience for bilateral personnel exchanges and create sound conditions for great development of bilateral relations; strengthen cooperation within multilateral mechanisms such as the United Nations (UN), the G20 and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and jointly safeguard common interests of the two countries and the vast developing countries; push forward bilateral cooperation under the framework of the Forum between China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the continuous advancement of China-Latin America comprehensive cooperative partnership of equality, mutual benefit and common development.

Following the meeting, both sides signed the Minutes of the Sixth Meeting of the China-Mexico Intergovernmental Standing Committee.
