On November 12, 2014, President Xi Jinping held talks with President Verónica Michelle Bachelet Jeria of Chile at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Chile enjoy high-level mutual trust. We should turn this advantage into cooperative impetus and promote a sustained and stable development of the strategic partnership between China and Chile. We held a meeting when attending the China-Latin America and the Caribbean Summit in Brasilia and reached important consensus. At present, both China and Chile are at a critical stage of development and reform. As long as we exactly identify where our interests overlap, it is possible to fully release the cooperative potential and realize common development. Both sides should focus on formulating a joint action plan between the two governments. In particular, we should take the complete establishment of the China-Chile Free Trade Area as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation in infrastructure construction, connectivity, clean energy, agriculture, finance, science and technology and other areas and well organize activities of the 2015 Chinese Culture Year in Chile. China and Chile should jointly promote cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. The Chinese side appreciates the support of the Chilean side to the development of the China-Latin America relations, and hopes that the Chilean side continues to play a positive role in promoting the China-Latin America overall cooperation.

Bachelet expressed that the Chinese side has well organized the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting which left a good and memorable impression to the participating leaders of the economies. They believe that this meeting will surely become an important milestone in the process of integration of the Asia-Pacific region. Through this visit, he has deeply felt the great potential for bilateral cooperation. The Chilean side hopes to actively promote bilateral trade and investment cooperation as well as bilateral currency swap and enhance cooperation on Antarctic affairs. The Chilean side hopes that the Chinese side positively considers participating in the construction of the "two-ocean tunnel" which connects the Pacific and the Atlantic. President Xi Jinping's trip to Latin America this July strengthened their confidence in the development of Latin America-China cooperation. The Chilean side actively supports the first Ministerial Meeting of the Forum between China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) to be held in Beijing next year.

Before the talks, Xi Jinping held a welcoming ceremony for Bachelet in the North Hall of the Great Hall of the People. Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others attended.
