On January 9, 2015, the first ministerial meeting of the Forum between China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) was concluded in Beijing.
The Forum held the plenary meeting in two sessions. Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Foreign Minister Manuel Gonzalez Sanz of Costa Rica, the rotating presidency of the CELAC together chaired the meeting. Wang Yi expressed that the important speech by President Xi Jinping at the opening ceremony of the meeting played an important leading role in the success of the meeting, charting the course for the development of the China-CELAC Forum. China is willing to, together with the CELAC, well launch and develop the China-CELAC Forum, push forward the parallel development of China-CELAC overall cooperation and relations, strive for early results, translate the concept of both sides into reality as soon as possible and establish a new model for common development and South-South cooperation.
Manuel Gonzalez Sanz, Foreign Ministers of other CELAC member states and other representatives said that this is a grand meeting with historic significance, ushering in overall cooperation between Latin American and Caribbean countries and brotherly and friendly China, which will push the CELAC and China to establish a closer partnership and exert long-term and positive influence on the well-being of the two peoples.
After discussion, both sides reached broad consensus on deepening governmental mutual trust, expanding mutually beneficial cooperation, advancing the construction of the Forum and so on. The meeting adopted three important outcome documents including the Beijing Declaration, the five-year cooperation plan and the operation rules for the Forum.
After the meeting, Wang Yi and Manuel Gonzalez Sanz together met the press.
The next ministerial meeting will be held in Chile in 2018.
