With an aim of deeply advancing reform on consulates in foreign countries to further integrate resources and improve efficiency, the Chinese government decided to temporarily close its Consulate-General in Tamatave from April 15, 2015, and all the diplomatic and consular affairs of the Consulate-General will be handed over to the Chinese Embassy in Madagascar.
On March 24, China officially notified the Madagascan government of the decision, and the Madagascan side expressed respect to the decision made by China. Both sides held that temporarily closing the Chinese Consulate-General in Tamatave will not affect the further development of bilateral relations.
Madagascar is an important cooperative partner of China in Africa. Since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relationship in 1972, the two countries have witnessed smooth progress in bilateral relations. Under the current new circumstances, bilateral friendly cooperative relations are embracing a sound development opportunity. The Chinese government attaches high importance to bilateral relations and will work with Madagascar to push bilateral friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas to new highs. The Chinese Embassy in Madagascar will also continue its unremitting efforts in further boosting the friendship between the two peoples, promoting bilateral cooperation and better serving vast Chinese nationals in the country.
