On September 18, 2015, President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolences to President Michelle Bachelet of Chile over the violent earthquake in the country.

Xi Jinping expressed that I was shocked to learn that your country was hit by the violent earthquake which caused heavy causalities and loss of property. On behalf of the Chinese government and people and in my own name, I would like to extend profound condolences to the victims and sincere sympathies to the bereaved families and the injured. I believe that under the strong leadership of Mme. President and the Chilean government, the Chilean people will surely overcome the disaster and rebuild their homes.
