From April 27 to 28, 2016, Vice Foreign Minister Wang Chao paid a visit to Uruguay. During the visit, President Tabare Vazquez and Foreign Minister Rodolfo Nin Novoa of Uruguay respectively met with him. Wang Chao and Deputy Foreign Minister José Luis Cancela of Uruguay co-chaired the 8th political consultations between Ministries of Foreign Affairs of China and Uruguay.

Both sides also had an extensive and in-depth exchange of views on China-Uruguay relations and international and regional topics of common interest.
