On May 19, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks in Beijing with Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra of Argentina.

Wang Yi expressed that as a major developing country and an emerging economy, Argentina is also China's comprehensive strategic partner in Latin America. China-Argentina relations have maintained smooth development with joint efforts of the two countries. President Xi Jinping and President Mauricio Macri held important meeting during the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington D.C. in early April this year, identifying basic principles of bilateral relations and the direction of joint efforts at the next stage. China stands ready to work with Argentina to continuously grasp the general direction of bilateral relations, further enhance mutual trust, and strengthen mutually beneficial and friendly cooperation in various fields, so as to promote China-Argentina relations to a new level under the new situation. China welcomes President Mauricio Macri to attend the G20 Hangzhou Summit in China, and is ready to strengthen communication with Argentina at all levels including government, legislature and political parties, and continue to understand each other and support each other's core interests and major concerns. Both sides should well use the current bilateral cooperative mechanisms to push forward communication and cooperation in various fields in an overall manner. Both countries enjoy prominent complementarity in economy and huge cooperation potential. The two sides should strengthen the docking of development strategies, forge the "upgraded version" of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, and continuously push for smooth progress of current major cooperative projects in such areas as hydropower, railway, and nuclear power. China is willing to, based on the needs of Argentina, participate more in infrastructure construction of Argentina, actively carry out cooperation in production capacity, and deepen cooperation in such fields as agriculture and husbandry, telecommunication, renewable energy, science and technology, aerospace and tourism. It is hoped that both sides can take the 2016 China-Latin America Cultural Exchange Year and the celebration marking the 45 anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year as opportunities to strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchanges, so as to inject more impetus into the development of bilateral relations.

Susana Malcorra expressed that President Mauricio Macri and President Xi Jinping held meeting this April, reaching important consensus on further promoting the development of bilateral relations. China is a key engine to drive the world economic development. It is very important for Argentina to strengthen Argentina-China cooperation in order to achieve self-development goals, which conforms to strategic needs of Argentina. The new Argentine government is committed to consolidating and developing Argentina-China comprehensive strategic partnership, and making Argentina-China relations a model of Latin America-China relations. Argentina will stick to the One-China policy as always, welcomes China to continue participating in large-scale infrastructure project cooperation of Argentina and looks forward to continuously expanding and deepening practical cooperation in various fields between the two countries, so as to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. It is hoped that both sides can further strengthen personnel exchanges as well as communication and cooperation in culture, sports and other areas. The Argentine side is willing to provide more convenience to this end.

Both sides expressed that they will conduct close cooperation to ensure fruitful results from the G20 Hangzhou Summit this year. The two sides also agreed to further strengthen coordination and cooperation within international organizations and multilateral mechanisms such as the United Nations and World Trade Organization, and continue to vigorously promote the construction of Forum of China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States and the overall development of China-Latin America relations.
