On September 13, 2016, President Xi Jinping held talks at the Great Hall of the People with President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski Godard of Peru. Both heads of state agreed to view and develop China-Peru relations from a strategic height and long-term perspective and jointly push China-Peru comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level.
Xi Jinping welcomed President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski Godard to choose China as the destination for his first overseas visit. Xi Jinxing pointed out that China and Peru are ancient civilizations, good friends sharing mutual trust and good partners for common development. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 45 years ago, both sides have been sticking to sincerity, affinity and equal treatment. Sustained and in-depth development of bilateral relations, productive cooperation in various fields and close communication and coordination on major international and regional issues have not only brought tangible benefits to the two peoples, but also made positive contributions to world stability and development.
Xi Jinping stressed that China and Peru should insist on equal treatment and mutual respect, and deepen mutual trust at all levels. We should maintain high-level exchanges, expand exchanges between governments, political parties, legislatures and local authorities, and consolidate the political foundation for long-term friendship. Both sides should be committed to mutual benefit and win-win results and elevate the level of cooperation. Both sides should continue to strengthen cooperation in traditional fields such as trade, energy, mining industry and infrastructure, well implement bilateral free trade agreements, actively promote cooperation in investment and industry, expand cooperation in emerging areas including production capacity, modern agriculture, environmental protection and new energy, further explore cooperation potential, innovate cooperation models and constantly upgrade bilateral practical cooperation. The two sides should insist on communication and mutual learning to enhance traditional friendship. China is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in culture, education, media, think tank, colleges and universities and tourism, and reinforce judiciary and law enforcement cooperation with Peru. Both countries should continue to maintain communication and cooperation on major global agendas such as global economic governance, climate change and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and safeguard the common interest of developing countries. China supports the Peruvian side to host the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting this year and is willing to work with Peru to promote the APEC to make more contributions to the economic growth of the Asia-Pacific region and the whole world.
Xi Jinping pointed out that China-Latin America relations are an important component of South-South cooperation. China is willing to work together with Peru and other Latin American countries to strengthen political dialogues, deepen cooperation in an all-round manner and build a community of shared destiny for common progress.
Pedro Pablo Kuczynski Godard said that the reason why he chose China as his first overseas visit after elected as President is that the Peruvian people admire China's adherence to the path of independent development, which enables the country to become the world's second largest economy, the biggest industrial country and an important country in international affairs through its own efforts. Peru is willing to keep close contact with China in economy, people-people and cultural engagement and other areas, enlarge exchanges between the two countries in local economic governance and public project construction, and step up cooperation in such areas as infrastructure construction, investment, health care and tourism, so as to further advance Peru-China comprehensive strategic partnership. Peru stands ready to enhance coordination and cooperation with China in international affairs, and looks forward to holding a successful APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting with support from China.
After the talks, the two heads of state jointly witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation documents in culture, media and other areas.
