From August 1 to 3, 2017, Assistant Foreign Minister Qin Gang visited Surinam, during which he met with President Dési Bouterse of Surinam, held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs Yildiz Pollack-Beighle of Surinam, and held a group meeting with major members of Foreign Affairs Committee of Surinamese Parliament. Both sides exchanged in-depth views on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern.

Qin Gang said that developing China-Surinam long-term and friendly cooperation is not merely out of consideration of realistic benefits, but based on the shared adherence to the international axiom and fairness and the common pursuit for hand-in-hand development. China stands ready to further enhance policy communication with Surinam and explore the ways to deepen practical cooperation in various fields within the “Belt and Road” framework, in a bid to achieve common development.

Thanking China for providing long-term great support and generous assistance for development in various fields of the country including economy and society, the Surinamese side expressed that the country always regards China as its most important cooperation partner, and is willing to actively participate in the “Belt and Road” initiative, as well as constantly deepen bilateral friendly cooperative relations, so as to make a good demonstration for countries of different territorial sizes to build equal and mutually beneficial relations.

During his visit, Qin Gang inspected the site of Sophia's Lust Community Center funded by China, and met the local press with Minister of Foreign Affairs Yildiz Pollack-Beighle.
