On August 15, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Fernando Huanacuni Mamani of Bolivia, who was in China for a working visit. Speaking highly of the current situation of relations between both countries, the two sides expressed that they will make joint efforts to promote bilateral cooperation in various fields for sustainable and in-depth development.

Fernando Huanacuni Mamani recalled his experience of practicing martial arts at the Shaolin Temple years ago. He said that through practice, he comprehended the essence of Chinese martial arts, saw the greatness of Chinese culture and realized that cultural diversity is the basis of world multipolarity. Although Bolivia and China are far from each other, both countries are ancient civilizations and should play their due roles in exploring a better future for mankind.

Wang Yi expressed that Latin America was the first continent to seek national independence and liberation. A lot of valuable experiences as well as profound lessons were accumulated during the process. At present, the most urgent need for Latin America is to explore and find a development path that meets the realities of the region, suitable for its national conditions and widely supported by the people. We believe that living in a continent with ancient civilization, the people of Latin America must be capable and wise enough to achieve this goal.

Wang Yi said that the current situation in Venezuela is of great concern. China consistently upholds the principle of non-interference in internal affairs, and the issue of Venezuela should be resolved by its own government and people. A proper solution within the legal framework of Venezuela should be found through dialogue and negotiation among all parties. History has proven that interference from outside or imposed pressure on others will just make the situation more complicated instead of helping settle the practical issue.
