Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla of Cuba

On September 21, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla of Cuba on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Wang Yi once again extended condolences to Cuba over the recent damage it has suffered from Hurricane Irma, and expressed the belief that the Cuban people will be able to overcome the difficulties and restore normal life under the leadership of the Cuban Communist Party and the government.

Wang Yi pointed out that in face of the complex and changeable international and regional situation, China and Cuba should enhance communication, intensify coordination and deepen strategic cooperative partnership. China will continue to put Cuba at a special place in its overall foreign policy and will as always support Cuba's legitimate fight for sovereignty and its righteous struggle against the US embargo.

Wang Yi said that Latin America is an important region with a concentration of developing countries. The development and revitalization of the region are indispensable parts of the endeavors to revitalize the emerging markets and developing countries as a whole. At present, China-Latin America comprehensive cooperation is facing new situation. The second ministerial meeting of the Forum between China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States will be held in Chile early next year. China hopes Cuba to play a positive role in success of forum, boost the forum to achieve positive results in advancing unity in Latin America, shore up cooperation between both sides and enhance bilateral coordination.

Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla thanked China for its condolence and timely assistance after hurricane, believed that Cuba-China relations have seen a sound development with the continuous advancement of practical cooperation and favorable communication over international affairs in recent days. The Cuban Communist Party, the government and people appreciate China's support for Cuba's righteous cause for a long time and congratulate China on its enormous achievements in political, economic and diplomatic fields. Cuba is willing to further strengthen experience exchanges with China on state governance between both parties and both countries, and is looking forward to the successful convening of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.

The two sides also exchanged views on situation in Venezuela. They agreed that the internal affairs of Venezuela should be handled by its own government and people through dialogue and consultation among all sides in the country, and a proper solution should be adopted within the legal framework. The international community should play a constructive role to this end.
