Wang Yi Holds Group Meeting with Principals of Regional Organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean

On January 22, 2018 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a group meeting with principals of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) of the United Nations, the Inter-American Development Bank, the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean Development Bank, who were attending the Second Ministerial Meeting of the Forum of China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States.

Wang Yi said that regional organizations in LAC are all multilateral institutions familiar with local situations and have important influence. China appreciates all regional organizations for their roles as bridge and bond in promoting mutual understanding and mutually beneficial cooperation between China and LAC. China-LAC cooperation is essentially South-South cooperation, which is the mutual assistance and mutual support between developing countries, and what it pursues are common development, common prosperity and win-win cooperation. China appreciates various regional organizations for actively supporting the "Belt and Road" initiative, and is willing to take the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" as an opportunity to deepen bilateral cooperation in such fields as finance and infrastructure, contribute to the development and industrialization process of LAC, and tap new potentials, open up new space and provide new impetus for China-LAC cooperation.

The above-mentioned principals expressed that regional organizations in LAC spoke highly of China's great development achievements and significant contributions to promoting the world economic development, and thanked China for offering long-term and strong support to LAC. They support the "Belt and Road" initiative, under the framework of which, they are willing to work together with China to promote LAC-China trade for the realization of diversification, and open up new space for cooperation in investment, communication, innovation, ocean, disaster reduction and prevention, infrastructure construction and other fields, in a bid to inject fresh impetus into the development of LAC-China relations.
