On January 22, 2018 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Santiago with Foreign Minister Cayetana Aljovin of Peru, who was attending the Second Ministerial Meeting of the Forum of China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States.
Wang Yi expressed that Peru is China's comprehensive strategic partner and the relations between the two countries enjoy sound development. Last year, President Xi Jinping and President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski Godard met on the sideline of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Economic Leaders' Meeting, and reached important consensus, guiding China and Peru to achieve new progress in various cooperation fields. China stands ready to help Peru improve the level of infrastructure, deepen production capacity cooperation with Peru and expand new cooperation space in innovation, communication and other fields. Both sides should strengthen communication and coordination in international and regional affairs and constantly enrich the connotation of China-Peru comprehensive strategic partnership.
Cayetana Aljovin agreed with Wang Yi's comments on bilateral relations, and expressed that as Peru's biggest trading partner, China has made significant contributions to the economic and social development of Peru for a long time. Peru welcomes and supports the "Belt and Road" initiative. The Peruvian side stands ready to become an important participant in the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" and take this opportunity to further promote practical cooperation between Peru and China in various fields, so as to propel bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership for more achievements.
