On the afternoon of January 22, 2018 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Santiago with Minister of Foreign Affairs María Fernanda Espinosa of Ecuador, who was attending the Second Ministerial Meeting of the Forum of China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

Wang Yi expressed that Ecuador is a comprehensive strategic partner of China in Latin America, and China has always encouraged the Chinese enterprises to invest and develop business in Ecuador to support its national construction. At present, China has become an important trade and investment partner of Ecuador, and both sides should cherish this situation, trust and support each other, in a bid to maintain a correct direction of the development of bilateral relations. Ecuador needs to properly solve problems occurring in the development process, and safeguard legitimate rights and interests of the Chinese institutions and personnel. China is willing to, together with Ecuador, enhance party-to-party exchanges, carry out communication on state governance and administration, and meanwhile strengthen communication and coordination in international and regional affairs.

María Fernanda Espinosa expressed that developing relations with China is a top priority of Ecuador's diplomacy. Ecuador thanks China for providing support and assistance for the national development of Ecuador. Ecuador is satisfied with the continuous progress achieved from bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, and is willing to well maintain the overall situation of bilateral relations and hard-won cooperation results. Both countries enjoy similar views on a series of international and regional issues, and Ecuador hopes to enhance communication and coordination with the Chinese side to safeguard common interests. Ecuador congratulates on the complete success of the Second Ministerial Meeting of the China-CELAC Forum, thanks for the prominent contributions made by the Chinese side, and is ready to, together with China, jointly push forward the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" by China and the CELAC.
