Wang Qishan Meets with Foreign Minister Miguel Vargas Maldonado of the Dominican Republic

On May 1, 2018, Vice President Wang Qishan met at Zhongnanhai with Foreign Minister Miguel Vargas Maldonado of the Dominican Republic.

Wang Qishan first conveyed President Xi Jinping's warm greetings to President Danilo Medina, and expressed congratulations on the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Dominican Republic. He noted that the government of the Dominican Republic recognized and upheld the one-China principle, and made the political decision to sever the diplomatic relations with Taiwan and establish the diplomatic relations with China, complying with the trend of the times and conforming to the fundamental and long-term interests of the two countries and the two peoples. After the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the development potential of bilateral relations will be fully released with broad development prospects. China will, together with the Dominican Republic, well make follow-up work of the establishment of diplomatic relations, continue to increase political mutual trust, strengthen bilateral exchanges, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, promote the building of a new type of international relations, and build a community with a shared future for mankind, so as to well write a new chapter in the history of bilateral relations.

Miguel Vargas Maldonado conveyed President Danilo Medina's warm greetings and best wishes to President Xi Jinping. He expressed that the Dominican Republic will abide by the one-China principle, vigorously carry out exchanges and cooperation between the two countries, and be a partner of mutual trust, in a bid to break new ground of bilateral relations.

State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the meeting.
