On May 20, 2018 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks in Buenos Aires with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship Jorge Marcelo Faurie of Argentina.

Wang Yi expressed that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state in recent years, China-Argentina relations have maintained a sound momentum of comprehensive development, with steady growth in bilateral trade, cooperation in major projects being advanced in an orderly manner, as well as people-to-people and cultural exchanges becoming increasingly closer. Both countries have carried out sound coordination and cooperation in international multilateral mechanisms. China is satisfied with the comprehensiveness and strategic significance of China-Argentina relations. Affected by external factors, the economic and financial situation in Argentina has recently encountered some difficulties. As a comprehensive strategic partner of Argentina, China firmly supports Argentina in taking effective measures to safeguard its financial and economic stability, and is willing to provide assistance in this regard within China's capacity. China will be the most reliable and long-term cooperative partner in the development process of Argentina. The Chinese side has confidence in the prospects for Argentina's economic development. China is willing to maintain high-level exchanges with Argentina and make joint efforts to ensure the scheduled high-level visit between the two sides to become a historic visit with landmark significance in the history of China-Argentina relations. The two sides should well plan and implement practical cooperation in various fields, discuss the joint building of the "Belt and Road" in a more active manner at the same time, and integrate the "Belt and Road" initiative with Argentina's national development strategies, so as to provide new impetus and open up new prospects for the development of bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership. China fully supports Argentina in hosting a successful session of the G20 Summit, and will make joint efforts with Argentina to make relevant preparations to ensure that the summit will achieve positive results, in a bid to jointly promote multilateralism and build an open world economy.

Jorge Marcelo Faurie expressed that China is an important force on the current international stage, and plays an important role at such various levels as international politics, economies and strategies. Argentina attaches great importance to bilateral relations, treasures and thanks the Chinese side for its trust and support to Argentina, which is crucial for Argentina to overcome the immediate economic and financial difficulties. Argentina believes that the "Belt and Road" initiative is of great significance to the world economy, and is willing to actively explore the integration between its own development strategies with the "Belt and Road" initiative, as well as hopes to expand Argentina's export of agricultural and animal husbandry products to China and enhance cooperation in such fields as energy, mining and tourism.
