On January 21, 2019, Vice Foreign Minister Qin Gang met with First Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Julián Ventura Valero of Mexico.
Qin Gang conveyed the condolences of President Xi Jinping and State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi to President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard over the recent pipeline blast in Mexico that caused heavy casualties. Qin Gang emphasized that the Chinese side highly values China-Mexico comprehensive strategic partnership. Against the current complex international situation, the Chinese side is willing to, together with the Mexican side, maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and strengthen multilateral collaboration, so as to constantly promote bilateral relations to develop toward a new and higher level and make positive contributions to facilitating development and revitalization of the two countries, unity and cooperation among developing countries and world prosperity and stability.
The Mexican side thanks the Chinese side for its condolences, and stresses that developing relations with China is an important direction of the diplomacy of the new Mexican government. The Mexican side stands ready to further intensify bilateral high-level dialogue, propel bilateral economic and trade cooperation, and enhance bilateral communication and coordination on multilateral affairs. Both sides also exchanged views on China-Latin America relations and international and regional issues of common concern.
