On May 31, 2019, incoming President-elect Nayib Bukele of El Salvador met in San Salvador with Special Envoy of the Chinese Government and Vice Foreign Minister Qin Gang.

Qin Gang conveyed the sincere congratulations and best wishes from President Xi Jinping to Nayib Bukele. Qin Gang stressed that China and El Salvador established diplomatic relations on the basis of the one-China principle in August, 2018, opening a new historical chapter in bilateral relations. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, exchanges and cooperation in various fields between the two sides have been carried out rapidly, showing broad prospects for development. Facts have proved that the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and El Salvador follows the trend, wins the hearts of the people, and is a correct decision that can stand the test of history.
