Li Keqiang Meets with President Iván Duque Márquez of Colombia

In the afternoon of July 31, 2019, Premier Li Keqiang met with President Iván Duque Márquez of Colombia, who is paying a state visit to China, at the Great Hall of the People.

Li Keqiang expressed that Colombia is an important cooperation partner of China in Latin America. He said, the bilateral relationship has maintained healthy and stable development for the past 39 years since the establishment of the diplomatic relationship between the two countries, and the practical cooperation has been increasingly strengthened, which have widely benefited the two peoples. President Xi Jinping will hold talks with Mr. President to jointly plan the future development of the relations between the two countries. The Chinese side is willing to, together with the Colombian side, continue to consolidate political mutual trust, speed up alignment of development strategies and deepen practical cooperation in various fields, so as to elevate bilateral relations to new highs.

Li Keqiang pointed out, both China and Colombia are committed to safeguarding free trade. The Chinese side never deliberately seeks trade surplus, but has always conducted fair, transparent and mutually beneficial cooperation based on market and commercial rules in its foreign trade activities. The Chinese side is willing to expand two-way investment with the Colombian side and will provide a better business environment for enterprises of both sides which seek cooperation in each other. The Chinese side will try to import more competitive and high-quality products from Colombia and working with the Colombian side, to promote a more balanced trade structure between the two countries. The Chinese side supports the Colombian side's efforts for economic development and domestic peace process.

Iván Duque Márquez said, Colombia-China relations enjoy smooth development with fruitful outcomes. Colombia admires the tremendous development achievements China has made in the 70 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China. Colombia firmly sticks to the One-China policy, and stands ready to intensify exchanges at all levels and deepen practical cooperation with the Chinese side, in a bid to push for better development of bilateral relations.
