Updated: November 14, 2019 09:30

On November 13, 2019 local time, President Xi Jinping held talks with President Jair Bolsonaro of Brazil in Brasilia.

Xi Jinping pointed out, President Jair Bolsonaro paid a successful state visit to China last month, and the consensus reached by us is being actively implemented. At the just-concluded second China International Import Expo (CIIE), the transaction volume of Brazilian businesses grew 3.6 times compared with that at the first CIIE last year. The results are gratifying. China and Brazil, as the two largest emerging economies in the Eastern and Western hemispheres, enjoy broad common interests. We are optimistic about Brazil's development prospects, and fully confident in China-Brazil cooperation. China is willing to share development experience and fruits with Brazil to achieve common prosperity. I am willing to join hands with you to properly grasp and guide the direction of the development of China-Brazil relations.

Xi Jinping stressed, both China and Brazil are major countries in the world. The two sides should maintain strategic focus, adhere to mutual respect and equal treatment, strengthen exchanges and consolidate mutual trust. China and Brazil should open markets to each other and explore ways to establish long-term, stable and direct supply channels for basic products, including agricultural products, iron ore and crude oil. The Chinese side supports its enterprises to actively participate in Brazil's infrastructure construction to promote connectivity. Both sides should advance cooperation in areas such as digital economy, next-generation communications, material science and biotechnology, wishing another successful launch of the China-Brazil Earth Resources Satellite in the near future, and urging the two sides to jointly promote the follow-up cooperation. Both countries should expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges and facilitate personnel exchanges. The Chinese side supports the Brazilian government's efforts to combat the disaster in the Amazon rainforest and believes that the Brazilian side is capable of overcoming the disaster. Both sides should work together to promote all-around exchanges and cooperation between China and Latin American countries, uphold multilateralism, build an open world economy, and safeguard the legitimate development rights and interests of emerging markets. The Chinese side supports Brazil in hosting the upcoming BRICS Summit and stands ready to work with all parties to make the summit a success.

Jair Bolsonaro expressed, I paid a successful state visit to China not long ago, and we reached much consensus on developing Brazil-China relations. I have instructed relevant departments of the Brazilian government to implement the consensus as soon as possible. China is a significant major country and Brazil's largest trading partner. The Brazilian people hold admiration, respect and friendly feelings toward the Chinese people, and Brazil-China cooperation boasts increasing significance to Brazil's future development. Economies of Brazil and China are highly complementary and the areas of cooperation continue to expand. The Brazilian side welcomes investment from Chinese enterprises to Brazil and stronger cooperation in infrastructure construction, iron ore, and the energy sector, including oil and gas. The Brazilian side values the important opportunities brought about by China's opening-up of its market, and hopes to expand bilateral trade and promote export of more Brazilian agricultural products to China. The Brazilian side is also willing to offer favorable conditions for Chinese enterprises and products to enter Brazil, and take measures to facilitate personnel and people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Jair Bolsonaro thanked the Chinese side for supporting the Brazilian's sovereignty over the Amazon rainforest issue and expressed his willingness to cooperate with the Chinese side on biodiversity conservation. He also thanked the Chinese side for supporting the Brazilian side in hosting the BRICS Summit. Brazil is ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with other parties to push for positive results of the summit.

Jair Bolsonaro expressed, Brazil is grateful for China's trust and friendship. From a long-term perspective, Brazil attaches importance to strengthening cooperation with China in a wide range of areas, so as to deepen bilateral traditional friendship and benefit the two peoples.

After the talks, the two heads of state met the press and witnessed the exchange of multiple documents on bilateral cooperation.

Ding Xuexiang, Yang Jiechi, Wang Yi, He Lifeng and others were present at the above events.
