On December 10, 2020, Vice Foreign Minister Zheng Zeguang met with Uruguayan Ambassador to China Fernando Lugris.
Zheng Zeguang said that since the beginning of this year, under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Luis Lacalle Pou, China and Uruguay have maintained close exchanges at all levels and made positive progress in practical cooperation. China and Uruguay are sincere friends and partners. The two sides should continue to implement the important consensus of the two heads of state, deepen exchanges and cooperation in anti-epidemic, economic and trade, and cultural fields, strengthen cooperation in multilateral and regional affairs, and push the strategic partnership between the two countries to a new level.
Lugris said that Uruguay always regards China as a priority partner. The Uruguayan side thanks China for its support and assistance to Uruguay's fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The Uruguayan government attaches great importance to the development of relations with China and is willing to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in various fields to promote the development of Uruguay-China relations to a higher level.
The two sides also exchanged views on other issues of common concern.
