On May 26, 2026 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Argentine Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno in New York while chairing the UN Security Council High-Level Meeting.

Wang Yi welcomed Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno to the high-level meeting and noted that under the current circumstances, the role of the UN should only be strengthened, not weakened. China and Argentina should jointly support and revitalize the UN and promote the reform and improvement of the global governance system. China and Argentina enjoy traditional friendship and broad prospects for development. China is ready to work with Argentina to implement the common understandings reached by the two heads of state and promote the long-term and steady development of the China-Argentina comprehensive strategic partnership. The two sides need to consolidate political mutual trust and support each other on issues concerning each other’s core interests. China appreciates Argentina’s adherence to the one-China principle. The economies of China and Argentina are highly complementary, and bilateral trade has grown substantially and become more balanced. The two sides should continue to expand practical cooperation in various fields. The two sides need to properly manage disruptive factors. China has no intention of engaging in geopolitical rivalry, still less asking other countries to take sides. China-Argentina cooperation does not target any third party but reflects mutual benefit and win-win outcomes.

Pablo Quirno noted that the initiative by China to hold the high-level meeting is of great significance. Only by continuously reforming and improving itself can the UN become more efficient, more pragmatic, and better suited to the needs of the times. The momentum of Argentina-China relations is sound. Argentina appreciates China’s support on the issue over the Malvinas Islands and will firmly pursue the one-China policy. Argentina is willing to work with China to maintain close high-level exchanges, deepen cooperation in such fields as trade, minerals, and agricultural products, tighten the bond of shared interests, deliver benefits to the two peoples, and elevate the strategic dimension of Argentina-China relations.
