On July 24, 2024, Director-General of the Department of External Security Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Bai Tian led an interdepartmental delegation to attend the ninth meeting of the BRICS Counter-Terrorism Working Group held in Moscow.
Bai Tian introduced China's views on the current international and regional counter-terrorism situation, clarified China's major counter-terrorism concerns, put forward specific suggestions on strengthening counter-terrorism cooperation among BRICS countries, and called on BRICS countries to strengthen solidarity and coordination, implement the Global Security Initiative, push for more achievements in BRICS counter-terrorism cooperation, and jointly make greater contributions to maintaining international peace and security.
This meeting is the first working group meeting of BRICS after its membership expansion. The meeting was chaired by Russia, the rotating chairmanship, and attended by representatives from India, South Africa, Brazil, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and other new and old BRICS members. Before the meeting, China chaired the de-radicalization sub-working group meeting of the BRICS Counter-Terrorism Working Group.
