2016 Consultation among Director-Generals of the Departments of Treaty and Law of Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the "P5" of the UN Security Council Held in Nanjing

From June 16 to 17, 2016, Director-General of the Department of Treaty and Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Xu Hong chaired in Nanjing the Annual Consultation of Director-Generals (Legal Advisers) of the Departments of Treaty and Law of Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the "P5" of the UN Security Council. Legal Adviser of the Department of State Brian James Egan of the US, Director-General of the Department of Treaty and Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Roman Kolodkin of Russia, Legal Adviser at Foreign and Commonwealth Office Iain MacLeod of the UK and Director of the Legal Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Francois Alabrune of France led delegations to attend the meeting. All sides exchanged in-depth views on topics such as the use of force against terrorism and the right of self-defense, extraterritorial jurisdiction, state immunity, law of the sea, international law in cyberspace, work of the International Law Commission and the International Criminal Court.

On June 17, Director-Generals (Legal Advisers) from the Departments of Treaty and Law of Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the "P5" went to Nanjing University to attend the "Foreign Policy and International Rule of Law" academic saloon. They introduced to over one hundred teachers and students at the scene the situations and viewpoints of their legal work of diplomacy, and conducted heated interactions and exchanges.

During the consultation, leaders of Jiangsu Province, Nanjing city and Nanjing University met with the delegates at the meeting respectively.
