The 3rd Workshop on AI Capacity Building Held in Shanghai

On October 20, 2025, Coordinator for AI Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sun Xiaobo attended and delivered remarks at the opening ceremony of the 3rd Workshop on AI Capacity Building hosted by East China Normal University.

Sun Xiaobo said that artificial intelligence (AI) represents the crystallization of the wisdom of all humanity and should not become a game of the rich countries and the wealthy. He emphasized the need to remain committed to innovation and openness to promote the continuous emergence of AI innovations; uphold fairness and inclusiveness to enhance the accessibility of AI technologies; and adhere to joint governance, with all countries jointly exploring ways to strengthen global AI governance and giving full play to the role of the United Nations (UN) as the main channel.

This workshop is a concrete step in implementing the UN General Assembly resolution on "Enhancing International Cooperation on Capacity-building of Artificial Intelligence" and the "AI Capacity-Building Action Plan for Good and for All". Government officials from over 20 countries attended the event. Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and Vice Mayor of Shanghai Chen Jie, and President of East China Normal University Qian Xuhong attended and delivered remarks at the opening ceremony. Experts, including Wang Jian, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, will give thematic lectures.
