On October 23, 2024, Special Envoy Zhai Jun of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue met with Norwegian Ambassador to China Vebjoern Dysvik and Special Envoy of Norway to Yemen Heidi Johansen at the latter's request.

The Norwegian side said, the recent escalation of tensions in the Middle East is worrisome, and Norway calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon to promote the implementation of the two-State solution. Currently, the political settlement process in Yemen, promoted by the United Nations, has stalled. Norway is concerned about this and hopes to work with China to push for all parties involved in the conflict to return to the peace "roadmap" for Yemen. The Norwegian side appreciates China's successful efforts since last year in promoting reconciliation between Saudi Arabia and Iran, as well as the signing of the Beijing Declaration by Palestinian factions. Norway is willing to strengthen communication and cooperation with China to promote peace and stability in the Middle East.

Zhai Jun said that the conflict in Gaza has been protracted for over a year, and its spillover effects continue to expand, posing a serious threat to regional security and stability. China proposed a three-step initiative to help get out of the current conflict and predicament in Gaza. A ceasefire and end of hostilities are pressing priorities. "The Palestinians governing Palestine" is the fundamental principle for post-war reconstruction in Gaza and the two-State solution is the fundamental way forward. The political settlement process in Yemen has stalled due to the spillover effects of the Gaza conflict. It is essential to quickly end the hostilities in Gaza while intensifying efforts to promote peace talks among all parties in Yemen and restart the peace "roadmap". China values Norway's unique role in conflict mediation, peace and reconciliation, and other international affairs, and is ready to work with Norway to make positive contributions to peace and stability in the Middle East.
