From November 15 to 16, 2024, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on European Affairs Wu Hongbo visited Malta, during which he met with Maltese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade Ian Borg, and held talks with Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and Trade Christopher Cutajar.

Wu said that China and Malta enjoy profound traditional friendship. In recent years, the development of bilateral relations has maintained a strong momentum, with solid political mutual trust and continuous progress in cooperation in various fields between the two countries. China is ready to work with Malta to expand cooperation in such areas as economy, trade, green development and culture and continuously push for new progress in bilateral relations and practical cooperation in various fields.

The Maltese side expressed that it attaches importance to the traditional friendship with China, reiterates its commitment to the one-China policy and looks forward to closer exchanges with the Chinese side at all levels and in all fields, strengthening cooperation in bilateral and multilateral fields and benefiting the two peoples.
The two sides also had an exchange of views on international and regional hotspot issues of mutual interest and concern.
