On April 24, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Swiss Federal Councillor and Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis, who was on a working visit to China.

Wang Yi said that Switzerland is one of the first Western countries to recognize and establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. Over the 75 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have consistently upheld mutual respect and trust, helped each other succeed, and fostered a cooperation spirit featuring equality, innovation and win-win results, making bilateral relations increasingly mature and stable. In the face of the current international situation characterized by uncertainty and instability, China and Switzerland, as staunch supporters of multilateralism and free trade, should work together to address the challenges of de-globalization, defend the legitimate rights and interests of all countries, and uphold the international economic and trade order and the basic norms governing international relations, never allowing the world to return to the law of the jungle.

Wang Yi pointed out that both sides should maintain high-level exchanges, continue to respect each other, treat each other as equals, rise above differences and strengthen cooperation to accumulate more positive factors for bilateral relations and enrich the strategic partnership with new dimensions. Both sides should accelerate negotiations on upgrading the free trade agreement, make good use of various dialogue mechanisms, and gather broader consensus on cooperation. The Chinese side welcomes more Swiss enterprises to invest and do business in China, and expects the Swiss side to continue providing an open, fair and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese-funded enterprises. Both sides should celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, jointly organize a series of events such as the China-Switzerland Year of Culture and Tourism, strengthen cooperation in areas such as science and technology, education and culture, and better facilitate personnel exchanges.

Ignazio Cassis recalled his visit to the China Pavilion when attending the Osaka Expo in Japan, saying that he saw from it China's profound outlook on history, worldview, and bright prospects. Switzerland always views its relations with China from a holistic and strategic perspective, and is willing to uphold a rational and pragmatic attitude to strengthen cooperation with China, move forward the Switzerland-China innovative strategic partnership on a right track, and write new successful stories of Switzerland-China relations. Switzerland is willing to maintain close high-level and multi-faceted exchanges with China, jointly celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Switzerland and China, accelerate negotiations on upgrading the bilateral free trade agreement, and expand mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields. Under the current circumstances, the international community should strengthen solidarity, and work together to defend multilateralism and free trade and uphold the international order based on rules and the rule of law. Switzerland is willing to enhance communication with China in this regard and jointly address various global challenges.

The two sides also had an in-depth exchange of views on the Ukraine issue, the situation in the Middle East, and other international and regional issues of common interest and concern.
