On July 11, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom (UK) David Lammy in Kuala Lumpur.
Wang Yi said that under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Keir Starmer, China-UK relations have been on the right track of improvement and development. Both sides should reaffirm their original intention of being strategic partners, grasp the general trend of mutually beneficial cooperation, adhere to mutual respect, properly handle differences, and respond to the expectations of all sectors of the two countries. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of World War II. As co-creators of the post-war order and permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, China and the UK should also jointly fulfill their international obligations, safeguard the outcomes of the victory of World War II, maintain the free trade system, and make new contributions to world peace and development.
David Lammy said that the current UK-China relations show a positive momentum of improvement and development, with increasingly frequent exchanges at all levels. The UK looks forward to working with China to further strengthen communication, take more substantive actions and promote cooperation in various fields such as economy and trade. The UK adheres to the one-China policy and is committed to developing stable and mature relations with China.
The two sides also had an exchange of views on international and regional hotspot issues such as the Iranian nuclear issue and the Ukraine crisis.
