
On the morning of January 6, 2026, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Zhao Leji met respectively with President of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Lee Jae Myung and Taoiseach of Ireland Micheál Martin in Beijing.
During his meeting with Lee Jae Myung, Zhao Leji stated that over the past three decades and more since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the ROK, friendly cooperation has been the defining feature of the bilateral relationship. On the previous day, President Xi Jinping met with President Lee Jae Myung, steering the course for the further development of China-ROK relations and charting a new blueprint. China is ready to work with the ROK to implement the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state, strengthen good-neighborliness and friendship, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, consolidate the foundation of public support, and promote the stable and long-term growth of the China-ROK strategic cooperative partnership. The NPC of China is ready to maintain the positive momentum of high-level exchanges with the ROK National Assembly, enhance communication and cooperation on multiple levels and in various fields, and provide legal guarantees for mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
Lee Jae Myung said that he and President Xi Jinping reached important common understandings on advancing the development of ROK-China relations. The ROK is willing to deepen cooperation with China in various fields such as economy and culture, strengthen exchanges between legislative bodies and between political parties, enhance non-governmental exchanges, and promote the development of bilateral relations.

During his meeting with Micheál Martin, Zhao Leji said that China and Ireland enjoy a traditional friendship. Over the past four decades and more since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have always respected each other and treated each other as equals, and bilateral relations have developed steadily. On the previous day, President Xi Jinping met with Taoiseach Micheál Martin, outlining a new blueprint for the development of bilateral relations. China is ready to work with Ireland to implement the important common understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries, enhance mutual understanding and trust, deepen mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation, and promote greater development of the China-Ireland strategic partnership for mutually beneficial cooperation. The NPC of China is ready to strengthen communication and exchanges with the Oireachtas of Ireland, deepen exchanges and mutual learning on legislation, supervision and governance experience, and contribute to the practical cooperation between the two countries.
Micheál Martin said that China's development is an admirable success story. Ireland adheres to the one-China policy and is willing to deepen exchanges and cooperation with China in various fields, strengthen exchanges between legislative bodies, and work for more results in bilateral cooperation based on the spirit of mutual respect.
