Wang Yi: China Supports Political Settlement of All Regional Hotspot Issues Through Dialogue
Updated: February 14, 2026 22:49

On February 14, 2026 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the Munich Security Conference. He delivered a speech at the "China in the World" session and answered questions from the floor.

When asked about China's role in resolving regional conflicts, particularly the Ukraine issue, Wang Yi stated that China's position is clear: all regional hotspot issues should seek political resolution through dialogue and consultation, and the same applies to the Ukraine issue. However, China is not a party to the conflict and therefore does not hold decision-making power over its outcome. What China can do is promote peace talks. China has sent special envoys for mediation and emphasized to all parties through various channels the need for an immediate ceasefire and cessation of the hostilities, as well as a return to the negotiating table.

Wang Yi noted that it is encouraging that dialogues among various parties have recently resumed, particularly with a focus on the substantive issues of the Ukraine crisis. China welcomes this development. Of course, significant differences in positions remain among various parties, and peace talks cannot be achieved overnight. However, without dialogue, how can there be peace? If dialogue does not continue, a peace agreement will not be reached automatically. China encourages and supports all efforts committed to peace and will continue to play a constructive role for peace in its own way.

Europe should not remain a bystander. After dialogue between the United States and Russia began early last year, Europe appeared to have been sidelined. Wang Yi said that he previously suggested here that since the conflict is taking place on the European continent, Europe has the right and should participate in the negotiation process at an appropriate time. Europe should not be on the menu, but at the table. China supports Europe in engaging in dialogue with Russia and putting forward its own proposals and solutions. In this process, through addressing root causes, a more balanced, effective, and sustainable European security architecture should be built to prevent similar conflicts in the future and achieve lasting peace and stability in Europe.
