On February 14, 2026 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the Munich Security Conference. He delivered a speech at the "China in the World" session and answered questions from the floor.
In response to questions on China-U.S. relations, Wang Yi stated that how China and the United States, two major countries, get along with each other bears on the fundamental direction of the international situation. China always views and handles its relations with the United States from the perspective of being responsible to history, to the people, and to the world. President Xi Jinping has summarized the experience and lessons of decades of China-U.S. interactions, and solemnly proposed that China and the United States should uphold mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, and through dialogue and consultation, jointly find the right way for the two major countries to get along on this planet. China will continue to follow this general direction, as it serves the interests of the peoples of both countries and the common interests of the international community. However, whether it can be realized depends on the attitude of the United States.
Wang Yi noted that it is encouraging that President Donald J. Trump has shown great respect for President Xi Jinping and the Chinese people. President Donald J. Trump has clearly stated that China and the United States can work together to solve major global issues and that the two heads of state can better develop China-U.S. relations. However, there are still some in the United States who do not think this way. They continue to try every possible means to contain and suppress China, and to unscrupulously attack and smear China.
Wang Yi said that China-U.S. relations face two possible scenarios. One is that the United States develops an objective and rational understanding of China, pursues a positive and pragmatic China policy, works with China in the same direction, and continuously expands common interests. In this scenario, China and the United States move toward cooperation, which would undoubtedly be of great benefit to both countries and the world at large. The other scenario is decoupling and severing supply chains from China, opposing China at every turn, forming various "small circles" and "exclusive blocs" targeting China, and even instigating or plotting "Taiwan independence", attempting to split China, and crossing China's red lines, which would lead to confrontation between China and the United States. China certainly hopes for the first prospect, but is also prepared to deal with various risks. History moves forward through twists and turns, but the prospects for China-U.S. relations are promising. The vision and principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation will eventually be realized, because this is the only right choice.
