Chinese Special Envoy on the Middle East Issue Wu Sike Visits Egypt

On October 30, 2011, Wu Sike, Chinese special envoy on the Middle East issue visited Egypt. He met with Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry Mostafa Kamel. The two sides exchanged opinions mainly on the current Syrian situation.

Wu introduced his visit to Syria and Saudi Arabi, elaborated China’s views and propositions on the current Syrian situation and stressed that the Syrian situation is complicated and severe and relevant parties of Syria and the international community should make efforts to stop all acts of violence and properly solve problems through dialogue and consultations.

He said that China holds an impartial position on the Syrian issue and admires and supports the active and constructive role of Egypt and the Arab League of pushing the situation in the direction beneficial to the interest of the Syrian people and all the Arab states.

Mostafa extended welcome to Wu on behalf of Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit, expressed admiration for China’s position and proposition on the Syrian issue and said that Egypt is willing to strengthen communications and coordination with China on the issue.

On the same day, Wu held a meeting with Chinese and foreign media in the Chinese embassy in Egypt, explained China’s position and proposition on the Syrian issue, took questions of the media and received the interview of Egyptian state TV and Al Jazeera.
